US B1 Visa

The B-1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa designed for individuals traveling to the United States temporarily for business-related activities.

Permissible Activities

Holders of a B-1 visa may engage in:

• Consultations with business associates

• Attendance at scientific, educational, professional, or business conventions or conferences

• Negotiation of contracts

• Participation in short-term training sessions

• Settlement of estates

Note: Employment or receipt of salary from a U.S. source is not permitted under the B-1 visa.

Visa Validity Period

Visas are generally granted for a maximum of 10 years, but can also be granted for 1, 3, 5 years, etc. The decision is left to the immigrant visa officer.

Duration of Stay

• Initial stay: Up to 6 months

• Extension: Possible for an additional 6 months, not exceeding a total of 1 year
