The Thai government issue two types of retirement visas to foreign citizens:

• One-Year Thai Retirement Visa (“O-A”): Issued to foreign nationals aged 50 and above from any country, with a validity of 1 year and an option for annual renewal.

• 10-Year Thai Retirement Visa (“O-X”): Issued only to foreign nationals aged 50 and above from certain countries, with a validity of 5 years. It can be renewed once, allowing a maximum stay of 10 years.

In both cases, holders of Thai retirement visas are not permitted to work.

Eligibility for Thailand Retirement Visa O-A

To qualify for the Thailand Retirement Visa (O-X), you must meet the following requirements:

• Maintain a deposit of at least 3 million Thai Baht in a Thai bank account.
• Have an annual income of at least 1.2 million Thai Baht.

4. During your stay, you must have Thai health insurance covering outpatient treatment with a minimum coverage of 40,000 Thai Baht per year and inpatient treatment with a minimum coverage of 400,000 Thai Baht. The health insurance must be provided by a company approved by the Thai General Insurance Association.

5. You must not have any of the following diseases: leprosy, tuberculosis, elephantiasis, addiction (drug/alcohol abuse), or third-stage syphilis.

6. You must report to Thai immigration officials annually to ensure that you continue to meet the necessary requirements.
