Dependent Pass (Malaysia)

The Dependent Pass, also known as LTSVP (Long Term Social Visit Pass), is a long-term visa valid for up to 12 months per entry. It is designed to encourage more foreigners to study in Malaysia. The Malaysian government has implemented various measures to facilitate this, including allowing parents, spouses, and children (aged 0-6 years) of students to accompany them during their studies. However, it’s important to note that dependents are not permitted to work in Malaysia.

Note: Only master’s and doctoral students who have obtained a long-term student visa (lasting more than 12 months) can apply for a Dependent Pass for their family members. (Tip: Undergraduate students are not eligible for family visas. Family members entering the country can only apply for tourist visas, with a maximum stay of one month per entry.)

The Dependent Pass is applicable for parents, spouses, and children (aged 0-6 years).

Required Documents

  1. Copy of dependant’s passport, including all pages (Note: All pages, including the cover and blank pages; it is recommended that the passport be valid for the application period plus 12 months).
  2. Copy of student’s passport and complete student pass.
  3. Marriage certificate of dependant (or proof of kinship/parent-child relationship), duly notarized and translated (If there is a divorce certificate, a custody certificate for the child must be provided).
  4. Passport-sized photos of the dependant (white background).
  5. Notarized and translated copy of the student’s birth certificate.
  6. Student’s current enrolment certificate issued by the school.
  7. Proof of payment or receipt for the purchase of Malaysian insurance.
  8. Bank statement (To apply for a Malaysian Dependant Pass, proof of deposit is required, typically around 150,000 Malaysian Ringgit, preferably as a long-term deposit).
The application process for a dependant pass is similar to that of a student pass and requires application through EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services).
Before applying, you should contact your school because during the application for a dependant pass, EMGS will still require the school to provide documents such as proof of enrollment, and each dependant needs to submit a separate application.

Application Process

1

Upon the student’s arrival in Malaysia, go to the school to replace the short-term student pass with a long-term student pass. Only after obtaining the official i-Kad identity card can the application for a dependant pass for family members begin. (Dependant visit visas are only valid while the student holds a valid student pass).

2

With a valid student pass, apply for a dependant pass through the school with EMGS. EMGS will request the school to provide documents such as proof of enrollment, and each dependant needs to apply separately.

3

EMGS reviews the application documents.

4

During this period, EMGS will process various documents and passports (similar to the process of applying for a student pass).

5

After approval by the Immigration Department, EMGS will send the school the long-term social visit pass (LTSVP) for family members.

6

Upon receiving the documents, verify the information on the files. Make a copy and keep the original documents safe.
