Vanuatu introduces mandatory biometric data collection for passports from May 1, 2025
Important Update: Vanuatu Passport Applicants Required to Provide Biometric Data from May 1, 2025
On March 21, 2025, the Government of Vanuatu announced a significant update to its passport application process. Starting May 1, 2025, all applicants will be required to undergo biometric data collection in person. This change is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize the Vanuatu e-passport system and align with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security standards.
What’s Changing?
Beginning May 1, 2025, manual or fully remote passport applications will no longer be accepted.
All applicants must be physically present to provide fingerprints and digital photographs.
Biometric data will be collected at the Vanuatu Immigration Office in Port Vila, and at designated Vanuatu Consulates in Hong Kong, Dubai, and New Caledonia.
More biometric collection centers may be added in the future.
Apply Now to Avoid In-Person Requirements
Applicants who submit their complete applications before April 2025 can still complete the entire process remotely, without needing to appear in person. This is particularly advantageous for individuals who are overseas or looking to complete their citizenship application urgently and conveniently.
