Fast-Track Registration for International Nurses: Australia Opens the Door to Six Countries
From March 2025, Australia will launch a streamlined registration pathway for internationally qualified registered nurses (IQRNs) from six approved jurisdictions, enabling faster entry into the national health workforce.

- Ireland
- United States
- Canada (British Columbia and Ontario only)
- Singapore
- Spain
Eligibility Criteria
To apply under the fast-track pathway, applicants must:
- Professional Practice
Have completed at least 1,800 hours of registered nursing practice since January 1, 2017 in one or more of the six approved jurisdictions. - Current or Previous Registration
Hold general registration as a registered nurse (past or present) in the relevant jurisdiction. - Certificate of Good Standing
Provide official documentation from the foreign regulatory authority confirming good standing. - Meet National Registration Standards, including:
- Criminal history check
- English language proficiency
- Recency of practice
- Continuing professional development (CPD)
- Professional indemnity insurance
What’s Changing
- No bridging courses or exams required
- Assessment times cut by up to 6–12 months
Full registration may be granted in as little as 1–6 months (compared to the previous 9–12)

This reform addresses critical healthcare staffing shortages and forms part of the Australian Government’s $90 million implementation of the Kruk Review recommendations.
