2026 Open Days: When Singapore’s Leading International Schools Actually Decide Places
For families planning international school entry in Singapore, Open Days are often misunderstood.
They are not simply campus visits.
For most international schools, Open Days mark the point at which admissions decisions begin to take shape.
In Singapore’s education landscape, when you engage with schools is often more critical than which school you visit.
January: The Admission-Critical Window
Across Singapore, approximately 80–90% of UK, IB and Australian-system international schools concentrate their admission-critical Open Days in January.
This timing is deliberate.
January is when three decisive timelines converge:
- Admissions for the new academic year formally begin
- Families return after the year-end break, ready to decide
- Schools review actual seat availability before allocations are finalised
For high-demand year groups, this is typically when:
- Early offers are issued
- Shortlists are formed
- Waitlists begin to build
By contrast, families who engage only after January often find that meaningful choices have already narrowed.

Why American-System Schools Are Different
A common question is why American-system schools are not included in the January Open Day decision list.
The reason lies in fundamentally different admissions models.
Pure American-system schools operate on rolling admissions, characterised by:
- Year-round campus tours
- Ongoing admissions assessments
- Decisions based on seat availability at specific points in time
For example, Singapore American School (SAS) does not rely on a single January Open Day to determine intake.
Its admissions decisions are driven by:
- Availability within a given year group
- Timing aligned with family relocation or transition plans
Including American-system schools in a January-centric Open Day list would therefore be misleading.
The Real Mistake Families Make
Most families do not miss out because there are “no schools available”.
They miss out because they enter the process too late.
International school planning is not simply about ranking schools.
It is about aligning:
- The right school
- The right year group
- The right admissions window
A school list alone is not a strategy.
